Take a close look at your flash photos, are you getting harsh shadows? Are the people in your photos too bright, but your background has a dark shadow.
One solution is to take your external flash and flip it at a 45 or 90 degree angle. This is known as bounce flash. This will help reduce that harsh shadow.
Going one step further, you should consider using a Flash Diffuser. These come in all shapes and sizes, including some you can make yourself with little effort. Commercial ones can range from about $10 up to over $60
My favorite diffuser is under $15.00 and is called a STO-FEN Omni Bounce.

Add this to your flash, set it at a 45 degree angle, and you’ll have much more pleasing portraits, just like the Pros.

If you are in need of a basic Photo Editor for FREE, Google has a nice one called Picasa. This is for the average snap shot taker, who needs some software to fix up their photos as well as help organize them.
Previously I mentioned some FREE Online Photo Editors, which is fine for fixing up the occasional photo, but if you have a lot. Googles Picasa is an easy and simple to use editor for the casual snap shot photographer.

No software to download, it’s all done on the web. Not ideal for doing a lot of photo editing, but if you don’t want to download software, and you only have a couple of photos to tweak, these are ideal.

If you have a Digital Camera, you’ve probably taken hundreds of photos. If you are organized, you’ve maybe even uploaded them somewhere and shared them with family and friends. Unlike the old days with film when you received prints of all of your photos, we no longer need to print the masses of photos. However, somewhere along the way, we lost the coziness of flipping through a photo album and sharing it with others.
Well along came Photo Books. A cross between a photo album and a scrap book, more of a coffee table book. There are several companies putting these out right now. I did a fair amount of research, and concluded on a site called MyPublisher.com
Here is a book I did as a test - KevinsTips.com Sample Book
There are also coupon codes you can use to save a few dollars.

Buying a digital camera can be an overwhelming task. I’m asked quite often, what’s the best camera.
Best resources are these two websites…
- Digital Photography Review
- Steves Digicams
Both of these sites provide extensive information about specific make and models of digital cameras. Dpreview has a nice Side-By-Side comparison available.
Best places to Buy a Digital Camera?
- B&H Photo
- Adorama
These two stores are the most reliable and have been around a very long time.
Locally you should checkout the Warehouse Clubs like Sams Club, Costo, BJs. They have good prices and often have very long and easy return policies.
