Better dSLR Flash Photography
Take a close look at your flash photos, are you getting harsh shadows? Are the people in your photos too bright, but your background has a dark shadow.
One solution is to take your external flash and flip it at a 45 or 90 degree angle. This is known as bounce flash. This will help reduce that harsh shadow.
Going one step further, you should consider using a Flash Diffuser. These come in all shapes and sizes, including some you can make yourself with little effort. Commercial ones can range from about $10 up to over $60
My favorite diffuser is under $15.00 and is called a STO-FEN Omni Bounce.

Add this to your flash, set it at a 45 degree angle, and you’ll have much more pleasing portraits, just like the Pros.
